Red Alert: A Path Beyond

The Client: 1.3.1

For right now, you can just go ahead and use the links in the upper left. If you are new to Red Alert: A Path Beyond, please use the upper-left link for "APB: Cold Fusion." This will hook you up with RA:APB 1.3.0, all your start menu shortcuts, the launcher/frontend, and an HTML copy of the manual. You will need to download the APB 1.3.1 Patch as well. Once the 1.3.0 full client installer finishes, you will then run the 1.3.1 patch installer. We highly encourage glancing through the manual so you have a rough idea of what every unit does, especially if you are not familiar with the original Red Alert.

If you already have a copy of RA:APB 1.3.0 (also known as Cold Fusion) or an existing copy of RA:APB 1.2.0 (also known as Beta with patch 2) then you can click the second option, for "Cold Fusion Patch (version 1.3.1)".
  • RA:APB Not Installed: Install 1.3.0 FULL then 1.3.1 PATCH
  • RA:APB 1.3.0 Installed: Install 1.3.1 PATCH only
  • RA:APB 1.2.0 Installed: Install 1.3.1 PATCH only
  • RA:APB 1.0.0 or older: Install 1.3.0 FULL then 1.3.1 PATCH

The Server

The new FDS package is not actually available right now, but will be available soon; we've only just now released 1.3.0 and its 1.3.1 patch and are building the hosting package. If you are interested in running your own server, first of all, realize that hosting a dedicated server requires a decent amount of power and a strong, stable connection. Your graphics card is not as important here, but a strong connection with both good upload and download, as well as a fast CPU, is very much a requirement. Don't try hosting dedicated on a 1 ghz pc with home DSL!

It is possible to host what is known by many games as "listen server" either for TCP/IP or LAN. This is not an optimal solution and implies a home computer system and a game between friends. If you're serious about hosting, you will need to download the FDS (free dedicated server) which runs a "headless" no-visuals server with far more advanced interfaces for server upkeep and remote management as well as game mode support and IRC relay. You may wish to rent a server box; ask in our forums, some groups of users have great deals on that.
  • One-day server for home/university: Run a LAN/Hamachi server with your game client
  • Long-term server for public access: Run a TCP/IP free dedicated server

Game Versions

Prior to the release known as Beta, our versions were named in a retarded way-- 0.99x. Years ago, the first version was called 0.990 for some reason, and it kept incrementing arbitrarily from there: 0.991, 0.992, 0.9925, and so on. The official server will always run the latest version. From time to time, fans host older versions for fun.

The NEW naming convention is as follows: Major.Patch.Addon

The Major version number can be represented by a letter from the Greek alphabet, indexed to zero; in other words, 0.0.0 would be "Alpha." Anything 1.0.0 is "Beta," anything 2.0.0 is "Gamma" and so on. So version 1.2.0 is "Beta Patch 2" and 1.2.1 would be "Beta Patch 2 Addon 1." The current version is "Beta Patch 3" but it is referred to as "Cold Fusion" since that sounds a lot cooler.
